The Passion of the Christ

This is probably the most controversial movie of all time. There are groups on at both ends of the extreme, and some remain neutral. I'm not going to try and explain the movie to you; it goes without words. You'll have to see it yourself. I'm just going to give my review.

I understand Mel Gibson is trying to get his point across, that Jesus died a horrific and bloody death. But this is so violent it can only be described as pornographic. This isn't what you think it means. I mean it's so detailed and vivid in its display that it's basically pornographic violence. Never has there been so much violence caught on film. The whole movie is just two hours of whipping and beating.
On the flip side, I also thought it was somewhat beautiful. Not the violence, but the movie. There are some wonderfully thought-provoking lines in the film. My favourite was when Jesus was being put on his cross, and he said, "Forgive them, Father, for they do not know what they are doing." Though they were sending him to his death, he still prayed for them. Beautiful.
I, myself, do not believe this movie was anti-semitic. I understand that it may provoke some anti-semitism in saying that the Jews were responsible for Jesus' death, but you have to know, Mel Gibson is a very religious Catholic. And we can't forget that this is HIS OPINION of what happened. Everyone translates the Bible differently. This is what he believed happened. Let's just leave it at that.
If you absolutely can't stand horrific violence and images, I wouldn't recommend seeing the film. But remember, everyone was responsible for the death of Jesus, and all he was trying to do was teach people to love.
